Language Nerd

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 4 October 2026

1. Who we are

Language Nerd (the “app”) is published by Nerd Crew, an independent developer based in Poland (“we”, “us”). We are the controller of the personal data described in this policy. You can contact us at jeka.corvus@gmail.com.

2. In short

3. What data we handle and why

3.1 Data stored on your device

To work, the app keeps on your device: the words you have seen and your answers (review history), your streak and study statistics, words you marked as known or excluded, the language pair you chose, your interface language and your settings (daily goal, new words per day, answer time limit and similar). We also ask for your year and month of birth at first launch. We use it only to apply age-appropriate settings (for example, no personalised advertising for children under 13). We do not ask for your exact date of birth.

This data stays on your device unless you use cloud save (3.2). Uninstalling the app deletes it.

3.2 Cloud save

Android. If you are signed in to Google Play Games, the app saves a copy of your progress and settings (including the year and month of birth above) to Google Play Games “Saved games”. This copy is stored by Google in your Google account, is used to restore progress when you switch or add a device, and is merged when two devices were used. We (the developer) do not receive this data and cannot read it. Google processes it under its own terms and privacy policy. If you do not sign in, the app works without cloud save.

iOS. Where available, the same function uses Apple iCloud and is subject to Apple’s terms.

3.3 Voice input (optional)

Some exercises let you say a word aloud. This is optional and the app asks for microphone permission only when you use it. Speech is recognised by the speech recognition service of your operating system (Android speech recognition or Apple’s Speech framework). Depending on your device settings, the system service may process audio on Google’s or Apple’s servers under their own policies. The app only receives the recognised text, compares it to the expected word and discards it. We do not record, store or send your voice to our own servers.

3.4 Dictionary downloads

Word lists are downloaded when you pick a language pair. Downloads are served by Cloudflare. As with any web request, Cloudflare receives your IP address and standard request information (such as the time and the file requested). We do not use this to identify you.

3.5 Purchases and subscriptions

Subscriptions (“Pro”) are sold through Google Play or the Apple App Store. Payment is handled entirely by them; we never see your card or payment details. To check whether Pro is active and to restore purchases, the app uses RevenueCat, which receives an anonymous app user identifier and purchase information (product, dates, status, store, country) from the store.

3.6 Crash reports and usage statistics

We use Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics (Google) to find bugs and understand how the app is used. They receive: an anonymous app-instance identifier, app and dictionary version, language pair code, device model, operating system version, screen and mode names, time spent on screens and modes, session counts, and, when something goes wrong, error details and the app’s recent technical log. They do not receive the words you answer, text you type, recordings of your voice, your name or your email address.

3.7 Advertising

The free version may show rewarded video ads that you choose to watch (for example, to earn an extra attempt). Ad networks may collect your device advertising identifier, IP address and ad interaction data to deliver and measure ads. Where the law requires, we ask for your consent first (for example, in the European Economic Area and the UK) and you can change your choice at any time. For users who told us they are under 13, we show only non-personalised ads and do not use advertising identifiers for personalisation.

You can limit ad tracking in your device settings (on Android, “Delete advertising ID” or “Opt out of Ads Personalization”; on iOS, “Allow Apps to Request to Track”).

4. Children

The app is suitable for all ages but is not designed specifically for children and is not part of Google Play “Designed for Families” or the App Store Kids Category. For users under 13 we turn off personalised advertising and we do not knowingly collect personal data beyond what is described above. In some countries, children below a certain age (13 to 16 under EU law) need a parent’s permission to use online services; if that applies to you, please use the app together with a parent or guardian. Parents who believe their child’s data should be deleted can contact us at the address above.

5. Legal bases (EEA, UK, Switzerland)

6. Who receives data

We share data only with service providers that help us run the app, acting on our instructions or under their own terms: Google (Play Games Services, Firebase, advertising), Apple (iCloud, App Store), RevenueCat, Cloudflare and, if advertising is enabled, the ad network we integrate. We may also disclose data if required by law. We do not sell personal data.

7. International transfers

These providers may process data outside your country, including in the United States. Where required, transfers rely on safeguards such as the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or Standard Contractual Clauses.

8. How long we keep data

9. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete your data, to restrict or object to its processing, to data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time. Most of your data is on your device or in your own Google or Apple account, where you can manage it directly. For anything else, email us at jeka.corvus@gmail.com. We will reply within one month. You also have the right to complain to your data protection authority; in Poland this is the President of the Personal Data Protection Office (UODO, uodo.gov.pl).

California and other US state residents: we do not sell personal information. Ad networks may use advertising identifiers for interest-based advertising, which some state laws treat as “sharing”; you can opt out in your device’s advertising settings (see 3.7).

10. Security

Downloads use HTTPS and are verified with a checksum. Data on your device is protected by your device’s security. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the app or the law changes. The date at the top shows the latest version. If a change is significant, we will tell you in the app or on this page before it applies.
